Barnsley vs Tranmere Predictions
- Barnsley are without a clean sheet in 11 games
- Tranmere are unbeaten in six FA Cup away matches
- Tranmere have failed to score in only one of their last six away matches
Tranmere can ensure goals at both ends
Barnsley are going great guns in the Championship and after 23 games they are within just three points off the playoff places.
That is in stark contrast to the 2019-20 campaign when they secured their survival on the final day of the season, and it remains to be seen how high up the FA Cup is on Valerien Ismael’s list of priorities.
Even so, the Tykes recently had a Covid-19 outbreak in camp and may be without some first-team players for the visit of League Two Tranmere, which somewhat stretches their small squad.
Barnsley may still have enough to prevail but instead of taking the short prices about them doing so, backing both teams to score makes more appeal.
The Tykes have conceded in each of their last 11 games and they have kept only one clean sheet in their last seven FA Cup ties.
Both teams scored in each of Barnsley’s two FA Cup clashes with Crewe and Portsmouth last season and the trend may continue against Rovers, who have failed to score in only one of their last six away matches.
Results have dipped but Tranmere finished 2020 with five straight League Two wins and it is worth noting that last season they knocked out Premier League Watford at this stage, drawing 3-3 at Vicarage Road before a 2-1 win in the replay.
With that in mind, we predict goals at both ends and Tranmere, who are unbeaten in six FA Cup away matches, may be able to take it to extra-time. Rovers drew their last road trip 1-1 at Barrow and a repeat result may occur at Barnsley.
