Sporting Lisbon Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Sporting Lisbon have not lost to Benfica in their last six meetings (in 90 minutes) and nor have they lost any of their last 13 Taca de Portugal ties in 90 minutes. They are good value to keep this clash close after drawing 1-1 at Benfica’s home in the league only a fortnight ago.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Sporting have scored exactly two goals in three of their last five matches and each of their cup semi-final games against Rio Ave. Three of the last five meetings of these clubs have finished all square, including a 2-2 draw in the second leg of last year’s semi-final.

Geny Catamo To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Geny Catamo has scored three goals in his last six appearances against Benfica. The Sporting wing-back also registered in the first leg of their semi-final win over Rio Ave.

Big derby date in Portuguese cup final

Primeira Liga champions Sporting Lisbon face runners-up Benfica at Jamor on Sunday as the Derby de Lisboa rivals meet in the Taca de Portugal Final for the first time in 29 years.

Rui Borges’ side will be looking to do the double after sewing up the league title last weekend while Benfica will be determined to regain some pride after losing out in a tight title race. The matches between the clubs were decisive as Sporting grabbed a crucial 1-0 home win in December and then held the Eagles to a 1-1 draw at Estadio da Luz in the penultimate round of games.

The clubs also met in the Taca de Liga this season and that finished 1-1 too with Benfica prevailing on penalties. The form points to another close contest on Sunday.

Catamo could steal Gyokeres’ thunder

The odds favour a Benfica win but Sporting have so many matchwinners at their disposal that they ought not to go down without an almighty fight. Viktor Gyokeres has scored 18 goals in his last 13 appearances for the club but cup finals can be decided by unlikely heroes too.

Sporting right-wing back Geny Catamo falls into that category. The Mozambique international has had a good season and scored in the first leg of his side’s semi-final win over Rio Ave.

He has also bagged three times in his last six derby appearances and can prove to be a major thorn in Benfica’s side again on Sunday. Back Sporting to win or draw in 90 minutes with Catamo on the scoresheet.
