Fight at the top

Two teams fighting for a spot in the 2022 Copa Libertadores group stage will face each other on Saturday as Bragantino welcomes Fortaleza.

The hosts made it three losses on the spin as they were beaten 2-0 by Santos during the week. They possess some of the best-attacking talents in the division, but their issue is that they often lose focus, however, on the flip side they can win a game out of nothing. Braga have fared better against the top teams of the league, rather than the weaker sides, having lost just one of their last six games against teams in the current top four.

The visitors have earned just one point from their last three matches, which came against Sau Paulo during the week but it doesn’t reflect the performances they have put in. Their poor run means that finishing in the top four could be a major challenge and they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth. They conceded goals in the final 10 minutes in all of their previous three games, costing them a total of five points, which are crucial at this stage of the season.

Tiring defences put to the test

There is a lot on the line here, the hosts possess the attacking quality but may be distracted by the final next weekend and Fortaleza will want to capitalise and secure three points rather than throwing the game away in the latter stages. It’s set up for an enticing counter and with both teams looking to attack each other’s lethargic defences, we think there could be a few goals here. A 2-1 win for the hosts thanks to a late goal seems likely.
