Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Brest have won four of their last five home matches, including ones against top-half teams like Monaco and Lorient. They also recently drew 1-1 with a Lille side just behind Marseille in the table. Back the home side to secure a 2-2 draw against a team that are coming off the same scoreline against Strasbourg last time out.

Marseille aim to make up for lost time

Marseille travel to Stade Francis‑Le Blé on Friday night aiming to put a traumatic few weeks behind them and make an early move back towards the top three. A sorry sequence of two draws and a defeat in their last three Ligue 1 games have seen Les Phoceens fall down to fourth.

They may have a new head coach in place by the time the game kicks off after the shocking mid-season departure of Roberto De Zerbi by ‘mutual agreement’. The squad that they will inherit is capable of going on a run and having a new broom around the place could have an instantly galvanising effect.

That said, Brest have been very hard to beat at home, where they have won four of their last five matches. Eric Roy’s men come into this fixture with renewed confidence after a 2–0 win over Lorient followed by a solid 1–1 draw at Lille in their latest match. Brest’s defensive numbers remain respectable, though they have struggled for consistency across their last 15 matches, winning five and losing six.

Focus on goals rather than the match result

It is certainly a trickier test for Marseille than their odds-on quote suggests and it may be best to steer clear of the match result in any betting strategy because of the managerial uncertainty.

Backing goals has merit given Marseille have been involved in plenty of high-scoring contests of late and leopards don’t change their spots overnight. At least three goals have been scored in eight consecutive Marseille away trips while half of Brest’s last eight games have also cleared the 2.5-goal mark.
