Draw

Reason for tip

Southampton are unbeaten in 25 games and are unlikely to have that streak ended by Bristol City but they are also equally as unlikely to earn all three points at Ashton Gate. They have drawn six of their last ten away games and the Robins, who recently avoided defeat at home against Premier League sides West Ham and Nottingham Forest, can hold on for a point.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Five of Southampton’s last eight matches have finished level, with all of those fixtures ending with a 1-1 scoreline. Bristol City’s last Championship draw also saw each side net exactly once and the same outcome should be backed on Tuesday.

Bristol City vs Southampton Predictions

  • Southampton have not tasted defeat in their last 25 games, winning 18 in that run
  • Four of Bristol City’s last six matches and two of their last three at home have finished level
  • Saints have drawn six of their last ten away matches

Resolute Robins can frustrate Saints

Southampton came back from the brink of defeat brilliantly against Huddersfield on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to 25 matches, but they may not be able to take all three points in their next game against a Bristol City team that seem to be improving week-on-week under Liam Manning.

The Robins have only tasted defeat in six of Manning’s 20 matches in charge and they were excellent in their 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Saturday, highlighting how they can mix it with the best on any given day.

City also beat West Ham 1-0 in an FA Cup replay at Ashton Gate and then held another Premier League outfit in Nottingham Forest to a 0-0 draw in the following round, showing just how strong they are at home.

Southampton set for difficult evening in Bristol

Those impressive results from the Robins will not fill Russell Martin with much confidence as his side have been less impressive on their travels than at home this term.

They have drawn six their last ten road matches, being held by inconsistent sides such as Watford and Huddersfield in that run, suggesting they may in for a difficult time in Bristol on Tuesday.

Leeds, a side of a similar talent level to Southampton, failed to run away with things in Bristol City’s last home match as the Whites eventually managed a 1-0 victory, but the Robins may improve from that result and hold on for a point in this clash.
