Buxton vs Morecambe Predictions
- Morecambe have conceded 37 league goals this season.
- Buxton have only made it to the FA Cup third round once in their history.
- Morecambe are 77 places above Buxton in the English football pyramid.
Buxton eyeing an upset
The hosts are currently fourth in the National Premier League, four promotions off their guests, and they are the lowest-ranked side left in this season’s competition having reached the second round for the first time in 63 years.
They have already came through five teams to reach this stage most notably defeating Kettering and York City but there is no question this is their stiffest task to date and it will be a big ask for the Bucks to advance to the next round.
The Derbyshire outfit have only made it to the thrid round once before but in front of the TV cameras and backed by raucous home support a fast start could help them here. Morecambe aren’t in great form, winning just two of their last 12 matches, and will be low on confidence so I see the hosts at least scoring here.
Morecambe quality should shine through
After all the Shrimps are four divisions ahead of their opponents and despite their dismal run of late, have too much quality to not win this tie.
Morecambe were thrashed 4-0 by MK Dons last weekend and have lost five of their last six on the road which demonstrates that they are susceptible to conceding. They have won just two of their last 12 matches, and are just two points above the relegation zone in League One, with one of those victories coming in the last round were they beat Newport County 1-0.
Given the gap between these teams I’m backing Morecambe to continue their run through the competition but not without a scare. 3-1 is a viable option in the correct score market.
