Cambridge United vs Stevenage Predictions
- Cambridge United have failed to score in 44% of their matches this season.
- Stevenage have failed to win in their last 11 matches.
- Stevenage have failed to score in their last 4 matches.
An out of form host
It is fair to say that the new decade has not exactly started in the way that Cambridge United would have hoped for as since the turn of the year they have lost all three of their league matches. With a run like that it is perhaps unsurprising to learn that they have dropped down the league and they now find themselves in 16th position. It is not as if they were in the form of their lives before the new year either as the only time they came away from anything other than a defeat in their last six outings was when they secured a 1-0 win against an out of form Morecambe side a few weeks ago.
It is easy to see where their issues are too, as Cambridge frequently struggle to find the back of the net and they have failed to score in 44% of their matches overall. With the hosts also failing to score in three of their last five outings, it is hard to imagine a situation where they are able to simply outscore the opposition.
The basement boys come to town
Speaking of sides who are not exactly enjoying life at the moment, that is certainly true of this weekend’s visitors to the Abbey Stadium, Stevenage. The visitors currently find themselves on the foot of League 2 and even though their future in the Football League is looking in serious doubt, they have not exactly kicked into life in recent outings.
Following a 0-0 draw with Oldham last time out, Stevenage are now without a win in their last 11 matches, and with no goals scored in their last four league games, it is easy to see why. This lack of goals is an issue which has plagued them for much of the campaign and is especially apparent on the road, where they have failed to score in 62% of their league outings.
A goal fest does not seem on the cards
In a clash between two sides who are out of form and displaying a severe lack of confidence, it appears as though goals may be at a premium. The hosts have lost five of their last six league matches and are not exactly among the top scorers in the division. Meanwhile, their hosts frequently fail to score, are in no sort of form at all and are without a goal in their last four league matches. The choice seems easy in this one, and backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored appears to be the way to go.
In terms of a correct score tip, while we think that the hosts seem the most likely to be able to get on the scoresheet, their lack of form at the moment suggests that this is going to an uphill struggle. They have kept a clean sheet in over a third of their home matches and failed to score almost as frequently. With the visitors averaging just 0.46 goals per game away from home and, as already discussed, so prone to failing to bag a goal, backing a 0-0 stalemate seems to represent the best chance of a decent return.
