Charlton vs Burnley Predictions
Burnley completed an immediate return to the Premier League on Monday when they edged to a 1-0 win over QPR at Turf Moor. If they avoid defeat again here they will have done so in 23 consecutive Championship matches, exactly half of the season and few can argue they don’t deserve their promotion. They will clinch the title with a win here and that will be the real aim for Sean Dyche and his men as they head to the Valley and it is something they’ve failed to do on their previous 2 promotions to the top flight so the thousands of Burnley fans in Southeast London this weekend will be hopeful of having some silverware to cheer for the first time since winning the old 4th Division in 1992.
There will be two divisions between these clubs next season following Charlton’s relegation in April but they did at least pick up a rare away win last weekend when they were 2-1 victors at Leeds so they should at least carry a bit of confidence into this game. Despite that there is still a real mood of discontent at the Valley right now with protests at the way the club is being run overshadowing recent home games and there will be more of that here, particularly given it’s the final day of the season with the TV cameras in attendance.
Fans have promised not to force the abandonment of this game or ruin Burnley’s party but the backdrop could well be ugly and is certainly not going to help the Charlton players on the pitch. Burnley have been hugely impressive since the turn of the year and although they’ve been a bit on edge over the past month, now promotion has been sealed, the shackles may come off and they could really turn on the style here against a Charlton team that has shipped 77 goals this season. Therefore backing Burnley to win & over 2.5 goals at 21/20 looks to offer real value and the Clarets could well seal the title in style.
