Charlton vs Millwall Predictions

  • 70% of Millwall’s away games have seen under 2.5 goals.
  • All of Millwall’s nine away draws have seen fewer than three goals scored.
  • Charlton have kept a clean sheet in all three games since the restart.
  • Millwall have drawn every away meeting with the bottom eight so far.

Charlton moving up

After taking a point at sixth-placed Cardiff, Charlton continued to move in the right direction. They are still unbeaten since the restart, with that point helping to lift them away from danger. However, fellow promoted sides Barnsley and Luton continued their fine restarts so the pressure remains on Lee Bowyer and his team as they prepare to host Millwall on Friday.

The visitors have failed to win since returning, which has hampered their chances of making the playoffs. It looks like they’ve run out of time with just six matches to go, but Gary Rowett will want his side to finish the campaign on a high. Can they finally pick up three points in this visit to the Valley?

Cagey Lions

Millwall have kept things quite tight in their last two games, having returned off the pace against Derby. Draws with Swansea and Barnsley have steadied the ship, restoring their defensive solidity. The visitors have conceded just 44 times in 40 league matches this season, with the majority of their games being incredibly close affairs.

The Lions have seen under 2.5 goals land in 70% of their away trips so far. They’ve drawn on nine occasions on the road, all of which have been 0-0 or 1-1. We can see another close game here given how Millwall are still searching for their first win after the restart. Meanwhile, our predictions point to Charlton’s new-found defensive stability to pay off.

Charlton looking secure

The Addicks have taken seven points from their three games back in action, keeping three clean sheets. That new defensive balance is huge for Bowyer’s men, who have moved out of the bottom three and towards the all-important 50 point mark. While that’s working in their favour, they are clearly short on goals.

The Addicks need a new figurehead in attack now that Lyle Taylor has gone. He was tied to the club up to the draw with Cardiff, but having refused to play he’s left on a free after missing their games in June. His absence has already had an effect on the Addicks, who have seen just two goals scored in their last three games. Millwall’s tight defence should make this a close clash, so our first prediction is to back under 2.5 goals.

Millwall have met six of the bottom eight ahead of this clash with Charlton, all six of those have finished as draws. Having drawn nearly half of their trips, we expect them to take a point back from the Valley this week. Given their solid defensive return and the Addick’s string of low-scoring results, we are going with a 0-0 draw as our correct score prediction.
