Chaves Under 1.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Chaves have scored one goal or fewer in four of their five home league games in 2022-23. Meanwhile, Santa Clara – who defended well in a 1-1 draw against Porto last weekend – have conceded one goal or fewer in their last four Primeira Liga away contests.

Chaves vs Santa Clara Predictions

  • Chaves have scored one goal or fewer in four of their five home league games in 2022-23
  • Santa Clara have conceded one goal or fewer in their last four Primeira Liga away contests.
  • Santa Clara defended well in a 1-1 draw against Porto last weekend.

Azoreans seek another survival boost

On Monday night, Santa Clara will attempt to boost their survival hopes by avoiding defeat to a Chaves side coming off a 5-0 thrashing at Benfica last weekend. The Azoreans are on the improve after taking almost half of their nine-point tally in the last two games with a win at Vizela and home draw against Porto.

The second result was a huge surprise and one that indicates Mario Silva is on the right track. Both goals in the 1-1 stalemate were scored from set pieces and the hosts managed the game very well to keep it close enough to pounce with their 83rd-mnute leveller.

They should prove stubborn opposition for mid-table Chaves, who are aware they remain in a relegation battle despite their relatively lofty position. Valentes were outclassed at the Luz last week and should not be too downhearted by the final result there.

Oppose multiple goals for Chaves

Prior to that game they had made their best start to a campaign in 25 years and will be hard to beat for a Santa Clara side that does not score enough goals. The visitors best chance of earning a point will be to defend well and try to nick a goal with another set play.

The game could well feature fewer than  three goals – as four of Chaves’ five homes have done and all but one of Santa Clara’s road games. But another interesting way in is to back Chaves to score fewer than two goals, which has landed in eight of their 11 top flight games in total this term.

Santa Clara have conceded one goal or fewer in their last four Primeira Liga away contests and, after holding the champions at bay for long periods last week, can do it again.
