      Cheltenham vs Walsall Predictions

      • Cheltenham conceded at least one goal in 75% of their home matches.
      • Cheltenham have scored in 92% of their home matches.
      • Walsall have scored in each of their last seven matches.
      • Walsall have scored two goals or more in each of their last three away matches.

Plenty of action at Whaddon Road

If football is moving into the entertainment business, then the paying customers at Whaddon Road are certainly getting their moneys worth this season as matches there have finished with an impressive average of 3.17 goals per game. Although plenty of those goals have been scored by the hosts, it should not discourage any visiting sides as Cheltenham have also conceded plenty too.

The hosts have managed to find the back of the net on a regular basis, and have scored in an impressive 92% of their home matches on home soil this season. However, they know that they will need to improve on a record which has seen them concede in 75% of their home matches if they are going to be able to climb the table and secure promotion come the end of the season.

A confident visiting side could spell trouble

Although Cheltenham will approach this match with plenty of confidence given that they are in decent form, this weekend’s visitors will also believe they are more than capable of being able to come away with the three points given their own recent spell. Walsall have won three of their last four matches, and although they still have a bit of a gap to make up, they know that they need to maintain this form for a while longer if they are going to get back into the promotion race.

The visitors endured a pretty slow start to the campaign and that was largely down to their inability to find the back of the net on a regular basis, however they have managed to score 10 in their last six games and they finally appear to have got the relegation monkey off their back. That said, however, there is still concerns about their ability to keep the opposition at bay at the other end.

      Something for everyone

With both sides approaching this match in plenty of confidence but both showing plenty of vulnerabilities, the win-draw-win market appears to be best avoided. Instead, there is something which stands out and that is that we expect both of these sides to have something to cheer in this match. As discussed, fixtures at Whaddon Road has seen plenty of goals scored already this season and given that two thirds of the matches there have finished with both teams scoring, we think backing the same thing to happen again this time around is the way to go.

In terms of our correct score tip, we think that there is going to be very little to separate these two sides. The hosts have a healthy average of 2.08 goals per game at home but have only managed to score more than once on a single occasion in their last six outings. With the visitors averaging 1.15 goals per game and conceding 1.31 goals per game on the road, a 1-1 draw appears to be the most likely outcome.
