Chesterfield vs Hartlepool Predictions
- Hartlepool are top of the league and have won their last four games
- Chesterfield haven’t won a National League game against Pools in six attempts
- Both sides have scored in all five of Chesterfield and Hartlepool’s National League games this season
Spireites seem vulnerable
Chesterfield and Hartlepool look set to be vying for promotion back to the Football League this season after strong starts to the campaign with the visitors arriving at the SMH Group Stadium sitting pretty in first place.
Fourth-placed Chesterfield could replace Pools at the top of the tree with a win in front of what’s likely to be a bumper bank holiday crowd but have looked a little unconvincing recently.
Paul Cook’s side have let leads slip in their last two games, conceding a late equaliser at home to Oldham before Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Altrincham – the Spireites first defeat of the season.
Last season’s play-off finalists had ridden their luck in a victory over Oxford City before that and look worth opposing when Hartlepool come to town having not won this fixture in six attempts as a National League club.
Pools possess firepower to trouble hosts
Hartlepool won both meetings last season and have won on their last two visits to Derbyshire, while they return in excellent form after four straight wins.
Boss John Askey celebrated being handed a new three-year contract by the north-east club last week by steering them to a 3-1 win over AFC Flyde at the weekend, a result that sent them top of the standings.
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe bagged a brace in that victory to move level at the top of the National League goalscoring charts on four goals and is part of a Hartlepool attack that’s scored at least twice in all five of their games this season.
Chesterfield are without a clean sheet and are likely to be troubled by such a potent frontline.
There’s too much to like about Hartlepool as underdogs for this fixture not to get behind them, although they are unlikely to have things all their own way having also not kept a shut out themselves this term.
These are the two highest-scoring sides in the division so it would be a surprise if both sides didn’t find the net in a fifth straight win for Pools.
