Chicago Fire vs New England Revolution Predictions

Chicago Fire picked up another home win last weekend, defeating Eastern Conference leaders by a score of 1-0. New front man Nemanja Nikolic picked up his second goal of the season to settle the game, and the ex Legia Warsaw marksman will be going into the game with New England in good confidence. You could certainly do worse than backing the Hungarian to get on the score-sheet at a shade above Evs.

Last week’s win continued a solid start to the season, with the only blight being the 4-0 defeat at MLS new boys Atlanta United. The Fire have picked up 8 points from the opening 5, enough to have them sitting pretty in the playoff spots in 4th place. Impressive home form has carried on from last season, unbeaten in the last 6 at Toyota Park and losing just once in their last 19 fixtures. If they can keep that up, and pick up a decent haul of points on the road, they look well placed to challenge for a place in the playoffs, which would be quite a feat after coming bottom of the Conference last season.

New England picked up their second win of the season in last round’s 2-0 home victory over Houston Dynamo. It was a deserved win and front-men Kei Kamara and Juan Agudelo will be travelling to Chicago in good spirits having both scored in the match. The result shot New England up the table, and they now occupy a play off place, lying just one point behind the Fire.

Their recent upturn in form is not all that surprising when you consider the potential cause of it. The Revolution’s two wins have both come on home soil, while they’ve taken just 1 point from a possible 9 on the road.  Poor away form caused them to narrowly miss out on the play-off spots last season, taking only 26.1% of their 42 point haul on the road. It’s a symptom which looks to be rearing it’s ugly head once again and over this season and last, the side have lost 10 of their last 15 on their travels.

Chicago look the likely winners, and odds of slightly above Evs it’s a bet worth taking. They are strong on home soil, and are facing a side that have done little to suggest they will trouble sides on the road.

The Fire have only lost 1 of the last 16 at home to the Revs, and considering the current state of both sides, that shouldn’t become 2 from 17. We do think New England can score, as they have some good players in attacking lines and they are confident at the moment, but don’t think it will mean much, as the hosts pick a replica of last October’s 2-1 win over the same opposition.
