Tip Reasoning

  • Colchester have been undefeated in their last 15 matches.
  • Colchester have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five league matches.
  • Swindon Town have scored in 86% of their away matches.

Proving difficult to beat

Colchester United have only lost five times in League 2 this season, which is two defeats fewer than this Tuesday’s visitors and the current league leaders, Swindon Town. However, the U’s may be difficult to beat, but they know that they need to improve on their ability to kill sides off and earn the three points as they have had to settle for a share of the spoils on 13 occasions already this season.

It is a figure which is only getting higher too, as six of their last eight matches has seen both teams go home with a point each. If they are to improve on this, then they need to improve their goal output as over the same eight game period, they have managed to score just nine times. However, with just an average of 0.79 goals conceded per home game, there are aspects of their play which they will be in no hurry to change.

Life after the tops scorers

A few weeks ago Bradford recalled striker Eoin Doyle from his season-long loan at Swindon, he was the top scorer in the English Football League at the time, with 23 goals in 22 league games for the Robins. Swindon’s promotion bid was dealt a further blow when they received the news that Doyle’s partner at the Robins, Jerry Yates, was also recalled by his parent club Rotherham United. Yates, who scored 12 goals in 27 appearances whilst on loan, was needed by the Millers to provide cover for the injured Kyle Vassell.

However, Swindon shook off their disappointment at losing most of their attacking output at the weekend as they put three past Port Vale in a dominant display. That result should not mask the fact that they have serious issues to address in attack as, although they have strengthened up there, the player brought in is Hallam Hope and he doesn’t exactly have the most prolific of records in the division.

A tense affair

With the hosts looking to extend their impressive undefeated run in the league to 16 matches, they will know that they can ill afford to give the league leaders anything easy. We expect them to keep it tight and given that they are so impressive at the back and have kept a clean sheet in around a third of their home games, their chances at shutting out the opposition are quite high. These chances only improve further when you consider the predicament the visitors find themselves in. With both of their top scorers now back at their parent clubs, Swindon may struggle to find the back of the net so backing at least one of the sides to fail to score in the “Both Teams to Score – No” market looks to represent a solid bet.

In terms of a correct score tip, judging by what we have predicted so far then it should come as no shock to learn that we expect this one to be a pretty close affair. The hosts have averaged just over a goal per game over their last eight league matches and have kept a clean sheet in 36% of their home matches this season. While the visitors have scored in 86% of their away matches, the scene has changed significantly since then so backing a 1-0 home win looks to be the way to go.
