Columbus Crew vs Colorado Rapids Betting Tips & Predictions

Columbus Crew, rather unexpectedly, made it to the MLS Cup Final last season but came away disappointed after losing 2-1 to Portland Timbers. The salt was rubbed into that fresh wound on the opening day of this campaign when they lost by the same 2-1 scoreline to Portland Timbers again.

It didn’t get much better after that either, with two defeats and two draws following in their next four games to leave them winless after the opening five matches of the MLS season. They did manage to get back on track briefly after that as they enjoyed back to back wins against New York City and Houston Dynamo, but then lost to Seattle Sounders.

Their most recent game looked to be going well too as they went 4-1 up against Montreal Impact, but the point they eventually came away with will feel like a crushing defeat after they conceding three goals in the final half an hour to throw away two points. This leaves them all the way down in 9th position in the MLS Eastern Conference having picked up just a point per game on average.

Colorado Rapids are the exact opposite to their hosts so far this season. They finished last season rock bottom of the MLS Western Conference, but have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround. They come into this game at the top of the Western Conference with a three point advantage over FC Dallas behind them and a game in hand.

Their 1-0 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes indicated that this would be another disappointing season for the Rapids, but since then they have lost just one more game. Seven of their 11 games so far in the MLS have resulted in victory, and they come into this game having won five and drawn one of their last six matches.

Away from home it has been a little trickier. They have only won one of their away days so far and have lost two in five. Columbus Crew have only won half of their home games though, so the visitors have a good chance. The visitors excellent form and their good record against Columbus Crew is making me think that they can get a result in this one, and odds of 10/11 for a Colorado Rapids Win or Draw Double Chance look incredibly good value. I’m also backing a 2-1 win for the visitors at 12/1.
