Copenhagen vs Ajax Predictions
Copenhagen’s dominant domestic season continued on Sunday when they beat Horsens 5-0 at home to leave them nine points clear at the top of the Danish Superliga. They look well on track to retain their Superliga title with just ten games remaining, and their European campaign is also something to be admired.
They made it to the group stages of the Champions League and only narrowly missed out on the runners up spot, eventually finishing 3rd and qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages. A 2-1 win over Ludogorets in the first leg saw enough to see them through to this stage, and they will be feeling confident about their performances now that they have some game time under their belts after the winter break.
At home they are undefeated all season in competitive football, winning 14 and drawing five of their games in total. This includes goalless draws with Leicester, Porto, and Ludogorets in European football and a 4-0 thrashing of Club Brugge.
Ajax will be tough competition though. Their 1-1 draw at Groningen on Sunday leaves them four points adrift of the top spot in the Eredivisie and extends their unbeaten streak to ten matches in all competitions. Eight of these have been victories, with only their first leg trip to Legia Warsaw and their weekend draw seeing them fail to pick up wins.
They followed that goalless draw in Poland with a tight 1-0 win at the Amsterdam Arena though to make it to this stage of the competition. This came after they topped their group with four wins and two draws in their six Europa League group games. Away from home Ajax have been known to slip up occasionally as well, so they might have some trouble overcoming Copenhagen.
Both of these sides are known for their cautious approach at the moment. Each of Ajax’s last five away games have seen fewer than three goals and just one of them has had both teams find the back of the net. Copenhagen may be dominant going forward domestically, but in Europa three of their four home games this season have ended goalless. Against the more dangerous teams they tend to opt for a defensive approach.
None of Copenhagen’s home games in Europe have seen both teams get on the score-sheet yet, and in all competitions they haven’t conceded in any of their last 12 home matches. This makes odds of 4/5 for Both Teams Not to Score look good value, so I’m backing that along with another goalless draw at 13/2 for my correct score predictions.
