Tip Reasoning

  • Blackburn have avoided defeat in seven of their last 12 Championship away contests.
  • Coventry City have failed to win eight of their last 11 home league matches.
  • Blackburn have kept clean sheets in five of their last ten Championship away games.

Sky Blues have been off colour at home

Blackburn have their leading scorer back after injury and can avoid defeat at The Coventry Building Society Arena this Saturday against the sinking Sky Blues. Coventry have been an enigma to punters this season, riding high early on when completely unfancied and now slipping slowly down the table on the back of some inconsistent displays.

Mark Robins’ men have won only three of their last 11 home league games and, although they spectacularly pasted Sheffield United there 4-1 last month, then went down 2-0 to Hull City a few days later. Finishing chances would appear to be their main issue, according to the underlying stats, with the Sky Blues having produced greater xG numbers than their last five opponents during which spell they have collected just four points.

The international break could not have come at a better time for Blackburn, apart from maybe a couple of weeks earlier, because Tony Mowbray’s side were in desperate need of a reset. Rovers had scored just four goals in their seven games since 20-goal talisman Ben Brereton Diaz went down injured in a 0-0 draw with West Brom.

Brereton-Diaz back to boost Blackburn attack

He played 80 minutes for Chile in a World Cup qualifier this week and should be deemed fit enough to start. Blackburn have failed to score in their last seven away league games, but Brereton-Diaz missed three and a half of those and Mowbray’s team don’t spread the goalscoring load.

Therefore, the Chilean’s return should perk up the visitors attack – and they may only need to score once to guarantee at least a point. Coventry have scored multiple goals in two of their last 14 home games dating back to when their form started to come off the boil in October.

Despite their recent struggles, Blackburn have avoided defeat in seven of their last 12 Championship away contests and can surely do so here against a Coventry team that has failed to win eight of their last 11 home league matches. A 1-0 away win at around 8/1 looks tempting in correct score betting as only three teams in the division have kept more clean sheets than Rovers.
