Cremonese vs Sassuolo Predictions

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in nine of the last 11 competitive fixtures to feature Cremonese.
  • Sassuolo, meanwhile have seen 12 goals scored in their three away games this term.
  • The Neroverdi scored 37 away league goals last season, a tally only bettered by Milan (41) in Serie A.
  • Cremonese have lost all four of their games in Serie A this term.

Cremonese not rising to the top

Cremonese have endured a predictably difficult start to the Serie A campaign, suffering four successive defeats after being lumbered with a tough fixture list containing early visits to Fiorentina, Roma and Inter. Their defensive shortcomings, however, must be fixed soon if they are to survive, and the visit of Sassuolo looks unlikely to offer them much respite on Sunday.

Indeed, despite their promotion, Cremonese conceded more goals than six other Serie B outfits last term, and have continued to ship chances at a higher level. Massimiliano Alvini’s men have conceded nine goals from 9.8 expected goals against (xGa) in their first four outings – both league-high tallies. Meanwhile, no Serie A team gives up more shots (21.8) or shots on target (eight) per game.

Those figures will no doubt be music to the ears of Alessio Dionisi and Sassuolo, who have enjoyed a three-match unbeaten run since losing at Juventus in their opener. The Neroverdi had the better of a goalless draw with Milan last time out, and only six Serie A teams have created more expected goals (5.8 xG) this season. Sassuolo scored 37 away league goals last term, and their three road games (in all competitions) since the restart have produced 12 goals in total.

Goals expected on Sunday

Given the hosts’ poor form and Sassuolo’s excellent attacking record, backing them to edge a clash containing a minimum of three goals looks prudent – 10 of the Neroverdi’s 13 league wins last term featured over 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, a 2-1 victory for the visitors could represent a solid correct score prediction – Sassuolo have kept two league clean sheets since February.
