Terrors can make home advantage count

Dundee United host Luxembourg’s Strassen in Conference League qualifying on Thursday and they should be able to secure a first leg lead.

United are bidding to reach the main draw of a European competition for the first time since the 1994-95 season, when they exited the now defunct Cup Winners’ Cup in the first round.

Since then, the Terrors have fallen short in qualifying on six occasions but this double header against Strassen looks like a very winnable tie.

Strassen came in second in their domestic league last season, but this tie looks a bit of a mismatch given the fact they were crushed 5-0 by Finland’s KuPS in Conference League qualifying last season.

The Tangerines are the heavy favourites but still represent value at their current price and a home win looks a strong play for our main bet.

United did concede in their final five games of last season and they shipped 54 goals in 38 Premiership games last term. Strassen have scored in their last eight competitive games and may be able to get on the scoresheet here, but a goal may be as good as it gets and a 3-1 win for the hosts is the correct score prediction as the Terrors will be looking to establish a big lead ahead of the return leg.
