Everton to Win

Reason for tip

Everton have won three of their last four at home and showed in their victory over Arsenal that they can thrive as an underdog. The visitors are winless in their last five away trips and they lost four of those, while Spurs are in terrible shape off the pitch following Antonio Conte’s departure.

Everton 1-0

Reason for tip

Tottenham have lost four of their last five away games, with three of their last four trips seeing them losing 1-0. The hosts have won three of their last four home games 1-0, while five of their six wins this season have come by a single goal.

Abdoulaye Doucoure To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Doucoure has been involved in four goals across his last three games, having a hand in each of Everton’s goals in that period. He’s scored twice in that time and is a threat from deep for a side who lack a strong presence in attack. With Spurs struggling defensively, back Doucoure for a goal.

Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Tottenham are winless in their last five away, losing four times
  • Everton have won 1-0 in three of their last four home games
  • Abdoulaye Doucoure has scored twice and assisted twice across his last three for Everton
  • Spurs have failed to win at all of the bottom three sides this season

Have Tottenham blown fourth-place hopes?

It’s fitting that Tottenham return to action at Goodison Park, given that their last visit to this ground in November 2021 marked Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club. Monday night is their first match since his departure, with Conte basically forcing his way out of the club following their 3-3 draw at Southampton over two weeks ago.

Spurs went into the international break in fourth, but they had just been torn apart by Conte in his post-match press conference after seeing his side blow a 3-1 lead at St Mary’s. Given the scale of his attack on his own players, the Italian had to go. However, the fact they haven’t replaced them is a concern for Spurs’ top-four ambitions.

Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini has stepped in as interim boss, but it looks like Spurs have written off the season. With the team at a low ebb and little changing, this visit to Everton could be a tough one.

Toffees need to rack up points

Everton are also in a tricky spot, having spent the season battling against relegation. Not only are the Toffees hovering just above the drop zone, but reports that their FFP breach punishment could lead to a points deduction this season puts them in massive danger.

Everton need a cushion over the bottom three just to be safe, but they’re just a point clear of 18th following Bournemouth’s victory on Saturday. With home form playing a key role in Everton’s season so far, Sean Dyche’s men need to get a result in front of their home support.

The hosts have claimed 65% of their points this term at home, while Dyche has inspired his men to win three of their last four at home. That includes a 1-0 victory over league-leaders Arsenal, so the hosts can thrive as an underdog.

Doucoure is key for Everton

Tottenham have conceded as many Premier League goals after 28 games this season as they did in the whole of last term (40). This is their worst defensive display in 15 years in the league, so Spurs look vulnerable in games like this.

Everton have won 1-0 in three of their last four at home and they can grind out a win over a Spurs side who are winless in their last five away trips. The visitors have failed to win at each of the bottom three this term, so the gulf between them is no guarantee for the visitors. Having lost 1-0 in three of their last four on the road, the visitors head to Merseyside in blunt form.

Everton can capitalise on the hosts’ issues, so look to them to claim a 1-0 win on Monday night. The hosts have a solid foundation which can keep Spurs quiet, while the midfield runs of Abdoulaye Doucoure can make the difference. He has been directly involved in each of Everton’s last four Premier League goals, with two goals and two assists across his last three games. The midfielder hasn’t matched his scoring record at Watford since moving to Goodison, but he’s in good form and can threaten a leaky Spurs backline.
