Falkirk vs Hibernian Predictions
The first leg of this Scottish Championship play off promotion certainly didn’t disappoint. As expected, the hosting Hibernian were in control of the ball for the majority of the opening stages, but it was Falkirk who struck first after a deflected shot ended up in the top corner. Hibs rallied around after half-time and scored twice in ten minutes to put themselves in front, before they were denied an obvious penalty. They will have been cursing the referee for missing this call when Bob McHugh netted a late equaliser for the game to end 2-2.
This made it four meetings in a row that have ended all square this season, and it was Falkirk’s fourth 2-2 draw in their last six matches. They have won the other two of these to put together a six match unbeaten streak, and they have only lost one of their last 14 matches in the Scottish Championship.
Hibernian lost against Raith Rovers a few games ago in the Scottish Championship play off quarter finals, but a 2-0 win on home turf was enough to overturn that deficit. The draw on Tuesday made it four wins, four draws, and one defeat for Hibernian in their last nine matches.
The 80th minute equaliser from Falkirk on Tuesday might come back to haunt them on Friday. Hibernian haven’t been particularly impressive away from home recently, with five of their last eight games ending in defeat and just one win from their last ten trips away from home.
Falkirk have won five of their last six home matches and only lost one of their last 15 outings at the Falkirk Community Stadium. 12 of these have ended in victory, so they will feel confident of being able to see off Hibs and take a step closer to top flight football.
The hosts haven’t been very defensively sound though. They have conceded in six of their last eight home matches and in eight of their last nine overall. Hibernian may be out of form on the road, but they have still managed to find the net in 15 of their last 20 away days.
Add to this the fact that it’s a must win match for them and I think we can expect them to break down the shaky Falkirk defence. Falkirk have managed to score 16 goals in their last eight matches though, so we know they have it in them to grab a few goals. This makes odds of 7/10 for Both Teams to Score look good to me, and I’m backing Falkirk to win the tie with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 10/1.
