Finland vs Wales Predictions

  • Wales won both meetings between the pair in last year’s UEFA Nations League.
  • Robert Page’s men have lost only to England, Belgium, France, Italy and Denmark in the last two years. In their 18 other starts in that period, the Welsh have won 12 and drawn six.
  • Finland have won just one of their last nine starts, losing six.

Dragons to claim third straight win over Finland

Wednesday night’s friendly in Helsinki isn’t exactly a priority for Wales, but Robert Page’s men should outpoint a Finland side who they beat twice in last year’s UEFA Nations League.

The Welsh have crucial World Cup Qualifiers against Belarus and Estonia upcoming in the international break, and both are must win affairs for The Dragons who appear to be in direct combat with Czech Republic for the runners-up spot behind Belgium in Group E.

Page has suffered a number of high-profile withdrawals with Aaron Ramsey, Joe Rodon, Neco Williams and David Brooks among them, but they still have to be sided with from a betting perspective. Gareth Bale is expected to feature and Tyler Roberts should be dangerous. With Wales beating Finland 3-1 in November with a similar squad the spate of withdrawals shouldn’t have too much of an impact.

Wales had a fair Euro 2020 campaign all told and probably did as expected by progressing from the group stage. Denmark steamrollered The Dragons 4-0 in the last 16, but that result shouldn’t deter punters too much here. The Welsh are someway behind Europe’s leading nations, but they’ve been extremely consistent against those below the top echelons in recent times.

As well as their defeat to Denmark, Wales have lost to England, Belgium. France and Italy over the past two years, however, their 18 other starts in that period have yielded 12 wins and six draws, including that pair of wins against the Finns.

With Finland winning just one and losing six of their last nine outings (and that sole success came in extreme circumstances against the Danes at Euro 2020), Wales are our fancy for small stakes in this one and we’re also tipping up a 0-1 correct score, with the hosts failing to net in four of their last five matches.
