Fiorentina fancied to overcome deficit

Fiorentina were runners-up in last season’s Europa Conference League but the Serie A outfit are at risk of missing out on the competition altogether this campaign.

The club from Florence lost the first leg of their Europa Conference League playoff 1-0 away to Rapid Vienna last Thursday, and they are in need of a turnaround in the home leg at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this week.

Fiorentina were the dominant side in Austria last week, winning the shot cout 15-4 and seeing 64 per cent of the ball and, with a home crowd behind them, they should get the job done this time around.

Not only did they rack up important European experience on their run to the final last season but they have also made a solid start to the new Serie A season, taking four points from their first two games and scoring six goals.

Goals could be at a premium in Florence

They will have been frustrated to relinquish a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Lecce on Sunday but this is likely to be a more cagey affair and goals could be at a premium.

Rapid Vienna only scored from the penalty spot last time out and drew blanks against Debrecen and Hartberg earlier in August.
