Flamengo vs Cuiaba Predictions
- Both teams have scored in four of Flamengo’s last five games, including defeats to Internacional and bottom club Fortazela.
- The hosts may not be worth backing for victory at a very short price after losing three consecutive matches.
- Cuiaba have seen goals at both ends in 10 of their last 12 matches.
Rio giants in dire form
A run of three consecutive defeats has stunted the positivity which engulfed Flamengo when they went five matches inbeaten in May, with new boss Dorival Junior unable to arrest their slide in his first game in charge after Paulo Sousa was sacked earlier this month. That 3-1 loss to Internacional followed off the back of poor defeats to Fortaleza and Bragantino, and means the hosts may not be worth backing when they host Cuiaba.
Flamengo have seen both teams score in four of their last five games, with their record of 13 goals conceded in 11 league games this year actually matching those of their 17th-placed opponents and rock-bottom Fortaleza. Dorival shouldn’t have too many problems on the goal front; Flamengo have scored multiple goals on nine occasions this term after leading Serie A’s goalscoring charts with 69 in 2021, but their leaky defence has been a concern throughout an underwhelming start to the season.
Cuiaba, meanwhile, are outside the bottom three after picking up a 1-1 draw against Bragantino in Antonio Oliveira’s first game in the dugout, having beaten Corinthians with the new boss in the stands in their previous outing. Cuiaba have also struggled defensively, seeing both teams score in 10 of their last 12 outings, including contests against Internacional, Sao Paulo, Santos, and Argentine giants Racing, so should at least be confident of competing.
Goals likely when out-of-form outfits meet
While it should only be a matter of time before Flamengo’s form improves, a run of three losses in a row does little to inspire confidence, while the visitors have only won two of their last 12 games.
Within that context, backing both teams to score looks a strong play, while a nervy 2-1 win for the hosts, who are unbeaten in the only two prior meetings between the clubs (both in 2021), looks a decent correct score prediction.
