French set for quarter-final return

France Women have certainly made their mark on the international stage in recent years, having made the last eight in each of their last seven major tournaments across the World Cup and Euros. However, they progressed to the semis in just two of those seven tournaments, show that they are yet to break through at the highest level.

Making the last eight shouldn’t be a problem for them Down Under, with France taking on a Morocco side who are enjoying an incredible tournament debut. The African side recovered from a 6-0 loss to Germany to leapfrog them on the final day. That saved France from a Euro 2022 rematch, while they head into this clash in Adelaide as heavy favourites to progress.

French can cruise into last eight

Morocco made their way into the knockouts after consecutive 1-0 wins, but it’s hard to see them holding firm against France. Given how the tournament debutants were torn apart by Germany in their opener, the favourites should cruise to a victory.

The French saw off Brazil with a 2-1 victory before finishing the group with an impressive 6-3 win over Panama. That win saw Lyon striker Kadidiatou Diani hit a hat-trick and she can follow that up with a strike in the last 16 as she looks to add to her 25 international goals.

France should prove too strong in this clash and given their consistent record of making it to tournament quarter-finals this clash shouldn’t be too taxing. Morocco showed that they’re ill-equipped to face top-level attacking sides so expect the French to run away with this one.
