FSV Mainz 05 vs RB Leipzig Predictions
- Mainz have lost only one of their last 14 home Bundesliga matches
- RB Leipzig have failed to win 10 of their last 11 away league games
- RB Leipzig have failed to score in eight of their last nine Bundesliga away trips
Mainz face revamped Red Bulls
Mainz finished one place and one point above RB Leipzig last season, so it should be no surprise that the oddsmakers can hardly split the teams ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at Mewa Arena.
Bo Henriksen’s side earned their first point of the new campaign with a late leveller at Wolfsburg just before the international break. That may have felt like justice after Cologne beat them 1-0 with a stoppage-time winner on the Bundesliga’s opening weekend.
Mainz may have been a little jaded by a trip to Norway for their Conference League clash against Rosenborg prior to that Cologne clash, but they should be feeling sharper for the visit of the Red Bulls.
Back hosts with a safety net
Leipzig bounced back from their 6-0 mauling in Munich with a 2-0 home victory over Heidenheim last time out. The summer exodus of talent will take a long time to fully overcome, however, with Benjamin Sesko, Xavi Simons and Lois Openda all having left in big moves.
New signings Johan Bakayoko, Romulo and Ezechiel Banzuzi are settling and Ole Werner will hope the deadline day plunge to buy Conrad Harder from Sporting Club reaps dividends. hey are still a work in progress compared to Mainz, who really only lost top scorer Jonathan Burkardt over the summer.
The 05ers have lost only one home Bundesliga game since October and they could probably be forgiven that for the late nature of the goal and the defeat coming on the back of their first European away trip in nine years. Back Henriksen’s side, who have won six and drawn seven of their last 14 at home, to come out on top via the Draw no Bet market.
