Fulham vs Manchester City Predictions
- Manchester City have won 18 matches in a row against Fulham.
- Fulham’s last win against City was a 3-1 success at the Etihad Stadium in April 2009.
- City have scored in nine of their 10 away matches this season
Fulham in decent form
Fulham have eased talk of a potential relegation battle following three wins in their last four, which includes Saturday’s 2-1 success on the road at Tottenham.
That was the Cottages first away victory of the season, with 13 of their 17 points being picked up on home soil, while their only defeat at Craven Cottage came in narrow fashion against Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Marco Silva will hope his side can take plenty of confidence into Tuesday’s clash with Manchester City, who needed a 91st-minute Phil Foden goal to beat struggling Leeds 3-2 on Saturday, an unconvincing result which came off the back of two defeats on the bounce for Pep Guardiola’s side.
City boast outstanding Fulham record
The problem for Fulham is they have a terrible record against their visitors on Tuesday, as City have won the last 18 meetings between the two sides, including 15 straight victories in the Premier League, which is a competition record against the same opponent.
Fulham’s last victory over City was a 3-1 success at the Etihad Stadium in April 2009, while it is over 20 years since they last beat the Citizens at Craven Cottage – Steed Malbranque was the hero back then, netting a brace in a 2-1 win in November 2005.
Guardiola will also hope that the late win over Leeds will help spark a return to form for City, who have scored in all but one of their 10 away games this season.
The problem has been keeping clean-sheets on their travels, as City have only managed three shut outs in their last nine away fixtures in all competitions and one of them was against League One Huddersfield in the EFL Cup.
Foden could be the hero again
History suggests City should win this game, but their current form, coupled with Fulham’s recent improvement, means it may not be easy, especially as only Arsenal have conceded fewer home goals in the Premier League this season than the Cottagers’ total of three.
One man that could help unlock Fulham’s defence is Foden, who was the hero on Saturday, as his late winner was his second strike of the game and he has now netted four across his last five club appearances.
It would be no surprise if the England international also has a decisive say on Tuesday.
