Shot-shy hosts may be vulnerable

Getafe are set to go off as favourites to see off Elche in La Liga’s Firday night offering this week, but it would be easy to get carried away about the home side’s chances.

Their season got off to a fine start when they posted three wins in their opening four games, but they have been unable to build upon that and they head into this one having won just one of their last five games on their own patch.

Goalscoring appears to be a problem. There are only three teams in La Liga who have scored fewer times in their opening 13 games and you have to go back to their opening weekend 2-0 win over Celta Vigo to find the last occasion when they posted an expected-goals (xG) mark greater than 0.9.

Draw specialists can grab another point

Their opponents’ indifferent home record should give Elche hope, even if they do have to be satisfied with a share of the spoils.

There is no team in the Spanish top flight who have drawn more games than Elche’s tally of seven, the latest of which was a home 2-2 against league leaders Real Madrid.

Jude Bellingham saved Los Blancos on Saturday, but Elche’s away games have tended to be low-scoring affairs, so a draw looks good value, with a 1-1 final score of potential interest to correct-score-betting enthusiasts.
