Villarreal can raid Estadi Montilivi

Villarreal are in form and look set to continue their good run away at Girona on Saturday. Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side have won four of their last six games on the road in the Primera Liga and should be backed to get another win at Estadi Montilivi as they look to nail down a Champions League qualification berth.

They are fifth in the league table, 11 places and 20 points above Girona. The hosts have won ten of their 34 games this season, while Villarreal have secured 16 wins and know fifth spot will be good enough to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.

Villarreal maintained their winning run last time, beating in-form Osasuna 4-2 to bring the visitors’ three-game winning run to an end.

Osasuna had their chances but didn’t make the most of them, and the result means it is now nine wins in the 15 matches in which Villarreal have been odds-on this season.

They should have no problem finding a way through Girona’s defence, which has been porous of late. The hosts have conceded in 13 of their last 16 home games in the league and have let in an average of almost one-and-a-half goals per game from their 17 matches at Estadi Montilivi.

It would be no surprise to see Villarreal get on the scoresheet, having scored two goals or more in 18 of their 34 league games this season. They have also averaged two goals a game in their 17 matches against bottom-half teams.

Girona are struggling for form, with one win, one draw and four defeats in their last six league games. They also lost 1-0 to 17th-placed Alaves recently.

Villarreal are in fine fettle, having won their last two Primera Liga matches.

With 22 of Villarreal’s 34 league matches this season producing over 2.5 goals, a 2-1 away win looks like the best correct-score option. Villarreal have been 2-1 winners in two of their last three away games and seven of their 16 wins this season have come by that scoreline.
