Gulf is too big for hosts to bridge

Stuttgart are the best bet to win at Hamburg on Sunday. There is a gulf between these teams in the standings, with Stuttgart possessing a clear edge if the league table is any guide.

Stuttgart are fifth in the league, nine places and 13 points above Hamburg. They have won seven, drawn one and lost three of their 11 games, while the hosts have just two wins so far.

Hamburg could not break their losing habit last time, going down 1-0 away to Augsburg, who were out-of-form themselves but ended a run of three straight defeats with the win. Hamburg had their chances, but failed to make the most of them. They were priced at 15/8 to win the game.

Stuttgart have been in goal-scoring form, finding the net in 14 consecutive games. They have scored at least twice in six of their last eight Bundesliga matches, including a convincing 4-0 victory over Augsburg in May.

The hosts are enduring a rough spell. Hamburg are without a win in five Bundesliga games and have lost four of their last five.

The hosts look vulnerable at the back. It is five games since Hamburg last recorded a shutout, and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last ten Bundesliga games.

A 2-0 away win for Stuttgart looks a decent correct-score option. Three of Hamburg’s last four Bundesliga matches have ended with under 2.5 goals and a low-scoring game could be on the cards here.
