Inter Milan vs Liverpool Predictions
- Liverpool have won on their last four trips to the San Siro when facing either Inter or AC Milan
- Both teams have scored in three of Liverpool’s last four games
- Dominic Szoboszlai has scored four goals for Liverpool this season, two coming in Europe.
Reds can bounce back against Inter
Liverpool will try to put the controversy over Mohamed Salah’s future and their Premier League struggles to one side when they resume their Champions League campaign at Inter Milan on Tuesday.
The defending champions are in a hole domestically with Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Leeds – when they threw away leads of 3-0 and 3-2 – then followed by the dropped Salah’s incendiary outburst as he aimed his ire at being relegated to the bench in recent games at boss Arne Slot and the club overall.
However, an outing in Europe could bring the positivity back. It is fair to say there were plenty of good signs in the hectic draw at Elland Road before the defensive mishaps that cost the Reds a valuable three points.
Liverpool’s performances and results in the competition this season have often been markedly better than in the league, with three wins from five so far, including an impressive 1-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield last month.
The shock 4-1 slump at home to PSV Eindhoven a few weeks ago, though, was an untimely setback, and now the Reds must now try to respond as they look to move back towards the top eight in Europe.
A trip to the San Siro is a tough challenge for any side but Slot’s men won 3-1 there last season against Inter’s city rivals AC Milan in their league phase opener, and Liverpool have won on their last four trips to the famous stadium.
Inter will approach the tie with plenty of confidence but facing a team that is prepared to attack rather than concentrating on simply sitting in and nullifying them may also work in Liverpool’s favour.
Inter are on a three-game winning streak, which includes Saturday’s 4-0 home demolition of Como in Serie A, and their only setback in the Champions League came on matchday five when they slipped to a late 2-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid.
Previous wins over Kairat Almaty, Union Saint-Gilloise, Slavia Prague and Ajax underline their credentials in this competition and last season’s beaten finalists will, of course, be difficult opposition.
However, Liverpool look good value to claim a familiar away win at this stadium again.
