Inter Milan vs Monza Predictions
- Inter Milan have seen under 2.5 goals scored in each of their last six games.
- The Nerazzurri have only won one of their last seven, which could put punters off backing them.
- Under 2.5 goals have been scored in five of the last eight matches played by Monza.
Nerazzurri saving best form for Europe
Inter Milan surprised many onlookers with a 2-0 victory at Benfica on Tuesday, a result which makes the Nerazzurri strong favourites to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since they won the competition back in 2010. That result came off the back off a dire run of form in Serie A, one which threatens Inter’s chances of mixing with Europe’s elite next year and makes Saturday’s meeting with Monza crucial in the battle for a top-four finish.
Inter are without a victory in their last five domestic games, a run which includes three successive defeats in Serie A and a bad-tempered Coppa Italia draw with Juventus. Simone Inzaghi’s side have struggled going forward recently, seeing under 2.5 goals scored in each of their last six games and only hitting multiple goals once during that run – in Tuesday’s win in Portugal. Three of Inter’s last five goals, meanwhile, have come from the penalty spot, and a return of just two open-play strikes from their last seven games lays bare their lack of creativity.
With Inter also potentially considering changes ahead of next week’s second leg against Benfica, Monza may fancy their chances of making things interesting, having held the Nerazzurri in January’s return fixture (a 2-2 draw). While a league double over Juventus shows Raffaele Palladino’s men possess the aptitude for an upset, they are experiencing something of a downturn, going four games without a win – drawing three – and seeing five of their last eight matches contain under 2.5 goals.
San Siro goalfest not likely
The timing of Saturday’s game, as is also the case with Inter’s Serie A rivals Napoli and Milan, could mean changes, and with Inter winless in their last four league contests, punters may be put off backing the Nerazzurri.
With that in mind, under 2.5 match goals appears a strong alternative play, and a hard-fought 1-0 win for Inter could represent a solid correct score prediction – the Nerazzurri have shipped a league-low eight goals in 15 home Serie A games this term.
