Inter Milan vs Slavia Prague Predictions
Inter Milan are back in Champions League action on Tuesday after a strong start domestically. The Nerazzurri will be aiming to improve on last year’s poor European showing, which saw them finish third behind Barcelona and Tottenham. Inter are meeting Barca again this time around, while their looming clash with Borussia Dortmund makes this encounter with Slavia a must-win tie.
Inter are riding high in Serie A with three wins from three under Antonio Conte. However, the concern for the hosts will be their new manager. He has four league titles to his name from his last five seasons in club management. However, his cup record has always been poor, with a particularly bad habit of coming up short in the Champions League. Will there be more problems for Conte this term?
Regardless of what is holding Conte back in Europe, Slavia Prague aren’t expected to be a major obstacle for the Italian giants. The Czech side are very much the minnows in this pool, with the club representatives going viral for laughing at their own misfortune during the draw. Given the talents they’re facing this autumn, they’ll be focused on not being roundly beaten in each clash.
It’s no surprise that Slavia have been made outsiders for Tuesday’s meeting. In fact, you could say that Inter are slightly overpriced despite being strongly odds-on for this clash. They were at their best in both meetings with PSV last season – the weakest side in that group. Slavia aren’t at the same standard, which points to an Inter Milan victory.
The Nerazzurri have won back to back home games to nil in Serie A so far. They’ve been too good at the back, with Antonio Conte keeping them organised. Inter were already among the leaders for clean sheets at home in Serie A last season, while Conte has improved them by signing Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid.
That signing points to positives for Inter going into this clash. They are already a solid side at the back, while Slavia aren’t that special going forward. They won their playoff clash 2-0 on aggregate against Cluj, suggesting they like to keep things tight. Slavia Prague haven’t scored a single goal in their last five European matches against Italian clubs, a goalless run that currently stands at 491 minutes. That’s why we’re going with Inter to win to nil, given their defensive strength.
We don’t see Inter overexerting themselves for this tie. We are backing them to shut up shop at the back, while they can stick a couple past Slavia. Romelu Lukaku’s fondness for smaller sides is well documented, so this could be a great chance for him. We’re backing Inter to win 2-0 at home this week.
