Ipswich vs Burnley Predictions
On paper, this is an obvious match-up between two teams that are set up to be tough to score against. In the reality of the Championship, they have each conceded three goals in their opening two games and another high-scoring encounter is a real possibility on Tuesday night.
In Mick McCarthy Ipswich trusts. He led them to the playoffs last season and the early signs are positive after an opening weekend draw with Brentford and good win over Sheffield Wednesday. The club also won their first game of the League Cup competition meaning that they are unbeaten in three competitive matches this season.
There are that there will be some incoming talent at Ipswich before the transfer deadline, most notably Jordan McGhee from Hearts. However, nothing has materialised so far and anything that does won’t impact Tuesday’s line-up, where talented midfielder Kevin Bru is still absent due to a hamstring injury.
Burnley spent just one season in the English Premier League. History suggests that they will need to establish themselves quickly to avoid getting ‘stuck’ in the Championship. Sean Dyche’s signing of talented goal-scorer Rouwen Hennings was a shrewd move and the German will surely make his debut as soon as the paperwork is filed.
Burnley secured a pair of 1-0 victories when these two sides met in 2013-14, but this is a different Ipswich side.
Our betting tips anticipate two things. That the combative nature and experience of the two managers will ensure that this is a physical and intense contest, this game will almost certainly see a few fouls.
It is also a game where goals should be scored. Both teams are playing their third game in a little over one week, each manager will surely make changes, especially in midfield and the expected energy of the game should also result in a few chances. We’re expecting both teams to get on the scoresheet, Burnley will probably have the better of the play, but Ipswich will show off resilience and guts on their home turf.
