Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Juventus have shown teething problems with Thiago Motta’s style in preseason, with the club conceding seven times across their three matches. Last term they kept only one clean sheet at home to the bottom six and their change in style should leave them exposed to an ambitious Como side.

Juventus 3-1

Reason for tip

Juventus should ultimately come out on top, as Como suffered defeats in five of their seven clashes away to the top eight in Serie B last season. This step up to the top-flight should see them overwhelmed by a Juventus side who will have a more attacking verve to them under Motta’s watch.

Juventus vs Como Predictions

  • Juventus have conceded seven goals across three preseason games
  • Juve conceded in five of their home meetings with the bottom six last season
  • Como have ambitious owners who have invested in the squad this summer

Bold new era for both sides

Como return to Serie A now officially under the stewardship of Cesc Fabregas, who was appointed as their manager this summer. The club has the wealthiest owners in Italian football, reflected in the summer signings of Raphael Varane, Pepe Reina and Andrea Belotti among others.

Juventus are also undergoing huge change, with former Bologna boss Thiago Motta replacing Max Allegri as manager. The ex-Inter Milan midfielder brings a distinct playing style, but that will require a real evolution from Allegri’s more conservative approach.

Juve have been busy in the market but early results are a concern. Their three preseason matches have brought a draw and two defeats, conceding seven times. Given that this is  Juve side that managed one clean sheet at home to the bottom six last term when playing with a defensive approach, their backline could be in trouble.

Juve have attacking threat and Motta will improve their attacking patterns, but his defensive set-up looks like it’ll take a little longer. Away form was Como’s weakness last term but given the scale of their ambitions and the way Fabregas intends to set them up, back the newly promoted side to score in a defeat.
