Both Teams To Score - No

Reason for tip

According to expected goals figures, Lecce and Sampdoria are Serie A’s two least-creative teams this season. Lecce have only hit the net once in their last six games, while Samp’s tally of 18 strikes all season is at least six fewer than any other Italian top-flight outfit have managed.

Lecce 1-0

Reason for tip

Lecce beat Sampdoria 2-0 in November’s return fixture between the sides, and the visitors are winless in their last seven on the road, losing six. Samp made it 10 losses from their last 14 games with a crushing capitulation against Cremonese last time out, and more misery could await them on Sunday.

Lecce vs Sampdoria Predictions

  • Lecce have lost their last six games, only scoring once during that run.
  • Sampdoria, meanwhile, have scored at least six goals fewer (18) than any other team in Serie A this term.
  • According to expected goals figures, Lecce and Sampdoria are the two least-creative teams in Serie A this season.

Samp surely done for after dramatic reverse

With 84 minutes gone in their meeting with Cremonese last time out, Sampdoria looked set to give themselves a slim chance of avoiding relegation with a huge home win. However, the concession of two late goals left Dejan Stankovic’s beleaguered side 11 points adrift of safety. On Sunday, seemingly doomed Samp visit a side who could yet join them in Serie B next term in Lecce, and punters should not expect much entertainment.

Sampdoria have lost 10 of their last 14 matches and, remarkably, have failed to score in nine of those contests. Indeed, Samp’s attacking shortcomings are primarily responsible for their dire league position – they have scored at least six goals fewer (18) than any other team in Serie A this term. Stankovic’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat in November’s return fixture at Lecce, and after their crushing loss to Cremonese, few of their supporters will expect anything better next time out.

Lecce could yet follow Samp into the second tier, having lost six successive games to leave them just five points clear of 18th-placed Verona. Marco Baroni’s men put up a good fight in their 2-1 defeat to Napoli last time out, but as with Samp, a lack of creativity is costing them. Lecce failed to net in five successive games before meeting Napoli, and their seasonal total of 23.6 expected goals (xG) is the worst in Serie A.

Classic not expected in Lecce

While Lecce’s dismal offensive displays threaten to drag them into the relegation mire, Sampdoria actually have Serie A’s second-lowest xG total this season (25.8) – so punters should not expect a goalfest.

Opposing both teams to net could represent a solid play for Sunday’s game, while Lecce’s victory over Samp earlier this season could tempt correct score punters to back the hosts for a tight 1-0 win.
