Tip Reasoning

  • Six of the last ten Lens home Ligue 1 games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • Six of the last ten Lyon away league games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • Just 12% of Lyon’s last eight matches have featured at least three goals (Ligue 1 avg. 46%).

Lyon look solidly built by Bosz

Goals could be few and far between in Saturday’s Ligue 1 meeting between Lens and Lyon at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Les Sang et Or have slipped out of the top four over the last ten rounds of play and are now down in seventh, one place and one point behind this weekend’s visitors.

Lyon arrive on the back of a good 2-0 home win over Nice in which they restricted their visitors to an xG figure of just 0.08. Peter Bosz was looking for a reaction from his side after their 2-0 defeat to Monaco and they delivered it with a dominant display. Tied on points with fifth-placed Rennes, OL are back in the race for European football next term, although they will also fancy their chances of going deep in the Europa League.

Prior to their hiccup in Monte Carlo, Lyon had put together a run of three wins in a row, including a good one at home to second-placed Marseille, so it would be no surprise to see them win again here. The oddsmakers have chalked them up as favourites to beat a Lens team that have lost only twice at home this season.

Lens tend to focus on defence against the top clubs

Franck Haise is without injured right-sided defender Jonathan Gadit and right winger Wesley Said for this game, but two of their three goals in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Bordeaux were created by their replacements. On the other side, Lyon striker Moussa Dembele – who has scored four in his last five appearances – will miss out through suspension.

Lens have faced four of the six teams currently above them in the table this season and on all four occasions there were fewer than three goals in the match. Six of the last ten Lens home Ligue 1 games have featured fewer than three goals and, likewise, six of the last ten Lyon away league games have featured fewer than three goals.

The stats align to the unders bet on Saturday and the odds of around evens certainly look like value in the circumstances. A 1-1 draw seems likely too as Lens have scored in 10 of their 12 home games this season while Lyon have notched in eight of their last ten aways.
