Levante vs Celta Vigo Betting Tips

This might not be the most attractive fixture of the opening weekend and it is unlikely to be a classic. Levante seem to be quite long odds given they hold home advantage and were pretty strong when sides visited them in Valencia last year after the appointment of Lucas Alcaraz as head coach in October.

They have lost just 3 of their last 17 home games although admittedly one of those matches was against this weekend’s opponents Celta Vigo. Better sides than Vigo have visited and gone away empty-handed though and top four finishers Atletico Madrid and Valencia both failed to win here last season.

Therefore backing Levante to pick up a point or better here at 8/11 is surely worth a bet. Whether they will have enough to win the game is a different matter. Celta Vigo were tough to beat last year either side of an awful run of defeats in the middle of the season. They possess a bit more quality than Levante but often lack that killer instinct required to kill teams off.

Celta were involved in 12 draws in La Liga last season and this game certainly has the makings of another one. Neither side has been involved in long pre-seasons in contrast to some sides in this division who have played as many as 10 friendlies.

We could well see a dis-jointed display from both teams here as there have been numerous comings and goings at both clubs. Celta have held onto star player Nolito but lost Santi Mina for big money to Valenica and will also be without first-choice goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez here. The 29 year old started every single La Liga game last season but was sent off on the final day.

Both sides would probably settle for a point to get their seasons off and running and a 1-1 draw is perhaps the most likely given neither side are likely to immediately find their rhythm going forward with a few new players on both sides making their debuts.
