Liverpool vs Rangers Predictions
- Rangers have scored six goals across their last two games
- Liverpool have seen BTTS land in seven of nine games this term
- Six of the last seven at Anfield have seen both teams score
- Liverpool have won 13 of their last 15 home UCL group games, averaging close to three goals per game in those victories
Huge task for Rangers
Rangers have been brushed aside in their two European games so far, with a trip to Anfield looking like another daunting prospect for the Gers. After their run to the Europa League final last season, they’ll be lucky to feature in Europe past November at this rate.
The visitors have lost heavily to both Ajax and Napoli, two sides who are putting Liverpool under pressure too. With those three sides set to battle it out for two places in the last 16, Rangers will struggle to even make it into third and stay in Europe.
Gers need a boost
Rangers are still looking for their first goal in the Champions League this season, after losing 7-0 on aggregate across their opening two matches. On the plus side, they’ve never previously failed to score in their opening three games in this competition.
The visitors have managed to give themselves a lift heading into this match. They followed up a 2-1 win over Dundee United with a 4-0 hammering of Hearts at the weekend. That should boost confidence for the visitors, who are out to prey on Liverpool’s issues.
Defensive issues remain for Liverpool
The Reds are expected to win this one comfortably, given Rangers have lost by three goals or more in three of their last five matches. However, the hosts have their own problems – with their lack of clean sheets becoming alarming.
Both teams have scored in seven of Liverpool’s nine games so far, so I’m backing Rangers to finally open their tally in Europe. Both teams to score is my selection in this clash, having landed in six of the last seven games at Anfield.
Liverpool have won 13 of their last 15 home Champions League group stage matches (D1 L1), scoring 36 goals in those 13 wins. Given that record and the Reds’ issues in defence, back a 3-1 victory for the hosts.
