Luzern vs Grasshopper Betting Tips & Predictions

Grasshopper are the most successful side in the Swiss top flight, but last season they had to endure the disappointment of finishing way down in 8th position in the Swiss Super League. This season has gone better, but they are still nowhere near being able to dethrone current Swiss dominants Basel, who have already wrapped up their 7th consecutive Super League title.

They come into this game in 3rd position, and with 11 points separating them from 2nd placed Young Boys they will need to win all of their remaining four matches to stand a chance of Champions League qualification. Although it could all be over if the 2nd placed side beat St. Gallen on Thursday.

The visiting Grasshopper come into this game having won two of their last three matches after suffering through a five match winless streak in the Super League. Generally, the 2nd half of the season hasn’t been very impressive for them and they have only managed 49 points from their 32 games so far. If their poor form returns they could find themselves overtaken by as many as three teams before the end of the season.

Luzern are one of those teams. They currently sit in 5th position in the Super League with 44 points, and they will be hoping that they can break into the top four and qualify for the Europa League before the end of the season. They are only behind 4th placed Sion on goal difference.

The hosts are in better form that Grasshopper too, with five of their last nine ending in a victory and only one match seeing them lose. At home they have won three of their last four, only being defeated by 2nd placed Young Boys.

Grasshopper have only managed one win from seven on the road and have lost three of their last five. I think the visitors could struggle on Wednesday, and they are probably resigned to missing out on 2nd place already so their motivation will be low. Luzern should be able to get a win as they push for European qualification, so odds of 1/1 for a Luzern Win look pretty good to me. I’m going for a 3-1 correct score prediction at 12/1 as well due to the fact that Luzern have notched 12 goals in their last four home games.
