Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Predictions
The Capital One Cup might rank fairly low down Manuel Pellegrini’s list of priorities this season but when you have a squad as strong as his, he can afford to make changes and still send out a very strong eleven.
He surprised many people with his team selection in the last round with Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne among the starters in a comprehensive 4-1 win at Sunderland. City will want to get the job done early again here and they are likely to pick a similar eleven with what shouldn’t be a terribly difficult home game with Norwich to come at the weekend.
City are unbeaten in 5 games, winning 4 on the bounce prior to the 0-0 draw in a drab Manchester derby on Sunday. They’ve scored 11 goals in their last 2 Premier League home games and should have enough to put some distance between themselves and Palace who have just hit a slight blip in form. Therefore they look good value to win by 2 goals or more at 10/11.
Alan Pardew’s side have lost their last two matches, at home to West Ham and away to Leicester in the league and they face a tall order if they are to avoid a 3rd straight defeat here.
Palace made numerous changes in the last round when they beat Charlton 4-1 at home and are likely to do the same here with Man United visiting Selhurst Park in the league on Saturday. Pardew won’t be totally writing off the game but clearly their back-up players are not in the same class as their opponents and it could be a long evening for the Londoners.
Man City were beaten at home by Newcastle at this stage in last year’s competition but they are looking stronger this and are a decent bet to emulate their 2014 triumph. This should be relatively comfortable and they are good value for a 3-0 win at 17/2.
