      Manchester United vs Southampton Predictions

It may not have been the most enthralling or entertaining match, but a 1-0 win at Anfield will have pleased many a Manchester United fan last weekend. The performance was pretty shocking in all fairness, but a late goal from Wayne Rooney allowed him to continue his recent goalscoring streak.

This made it five games unbeaten for Manchester United in all competitions, and with Rooney back to form Louis van Gaal’s side finally look a threat up front.

They have scored seven goals in their last four matches in all competitions and not failed to score in any of these matches. This represents a vast improvement on their awful run of form back in December.

Manchester United have started edging closer to that top four position that they vacated during this poor streak, and they come into this match in 5th position. They are only two points behind Spurs in 4th as well, and still only seven off the top spot.

Southampton sit in an unspectacular 10th position thanks to their shocking spell of form towards the tail end of 2015 and into 2016.

Their 2-0 win over Watford last Wednesday was only their second win in 11 matches, with eight of those 11 games ending in defeat. However, they managed to build on that result with an impressive dismantling of West Brom in a 3-0 win.

This means that Southampton have managed to score in five of their last six matches in all competitions, but have only kept three clean sheets in their last 11 games.

Louis van Gaal will surely have heard the relief from the Manchester United fans when they scored three against Newcastle, and everybody is hoping that he heeds this indicator and starts playing some more attacking football.

At home against a defensively vulnerable Southampton side would be the perfect place to get the ball rolling, and I think odds of 1/1 for Both Teams to Score are excellent value for money. I think the home advantage could get Manchester United the win as well, and a 2-1 win for them looks good at 9/1.
