FC Metz v Olympique Marseille predictions for this Ligue 1 match. Marseille kept up their fantastic form last week but will they be able to get past the potentially hazardous tripwire in the shape of Metz? Read on for our free Ligue 1 predictions and betting tips.

We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Marseille 2-0 @ 7/1

Reason For Metz vs Marseille Predictions

  • Marseille are currently on a run of six straight wins with 13 goals scored along the way.
  • Metz have conceded 25 goals in 17 games this season and haven’t won a match since October.
  • Marseille have created the most chances and conceded the least opportunities of all Ligue 1 teams over the least six games.

Imperious Marseille keep marching on

Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager André Villas-Boas is really getting the best out of his current team Marseille as they now sit 2nd in Ligue 1, five points behind PSG who have a game in hand. His side have been putting together some incredible performances with les Olympiens now on a run of six consecutive wins. They’ve scored 13 goals and conceded just four in this spectacular streak of results.

Marseille definitely haven’t been playing their best football away from home but recently their momentum has carried them across the line. Their last two results on the road were both 2-0 wins and they’ll be hoping to show that sort of defensive security here again. Les Olympiens have been outstanding at both ends of the pitch in the last few weeks, something which should strike fear into this Metz side.

Metz in the mire

Metz lost 4-1 to Nice last week to extend their winless run to eight games, seeing them slump down to 18th in the process. Vincent Hognon’s men have really struggled with the step up in quality since being promoted from Ligue 2 and it has been evident to see as they’ve failed to impress in many games against teams of a similar stature like Nîmes (1-1), Toulouse (2-2) and Brest (0-2). They’ve conceded 25 goals in 17 games and have scored just 14 in reply which is rather worrying.

Les Graoullys have won the majority of their points in Ligue 1 at the Stade Saint-Symphorien but it still doesn’t make for great reading. Metz currently have the third worst home record in the league with just one win in their last seven games there. They’ve conceded two goals on four of these seven occasions and with them shipping four away to Nice last week, their defence needs to buck up their ideas or face relegation.

Visitors to keep up their winning streak

This match sees two teams come together in drastically different waves of form. Marseille are on top of their game with confidence and goals oozing out of them while Metz can hardly keep a clean sheet for love nor money. The hosts were poor again last week against Nice and as a result we’re backing this one to finish 2-0 to the away side.

Marseille have just been so efficient with their play in recent weeks and with two consecutive clean sheets on the road, we think the visitors should be able to extend their winning streak here. Les Olympiens have conceded the least chances and joint least goals of all Ligue 1 teams over the last six games and they should have enough quality to hold firm against this awful Metz side.
