Mexico vs South Korea Predictions
- Mexico have failed to win eight of their last 11 home games against World Cup-qualified teams, drawing six
- South Korea have avoided defeat in three of their last four away games against World Cup-qualified teams
- Son Heung-min has scored 56 goals for South Korea and went close on a couple of occasions against Czechia
South Korea looked strong in opener
Mexico and South Korea are set to do battle on Friday in Guadalajara in a clash which could decide the winners of Group A. Both nations won their openers and generally looked good, so confidence will not be a problem ahead of this test.
El Tricolor took an early lead against South Africa at the Azteca and never looked back, sealing the three points after a volatile second half. Javier Aguirre’s men played a solid game and took their chances ruthlessly, often a recipe for a long run in any tournament.
Meanwhile, South Korea were forced to come from behind to beat Czechia after conceding the opener against the run of play. Hong Myung-bo’s side played some lovely football and looked to have benefited from their altitude training camp in Utah.
Mexico may not be able to win
The Taegeuk Warriors get to play at the same stadium again for this crucial second game while Mexico must move from the capital, although the hosts’ record is excellent wherever they go within their own borders.
Aguirre’s team are unlikely to lose this clash, but whether they are worth backing to win is a different story. South Korea are a hard nut to crack away from home and Mexico have drawn more home matches against top teams than they have won in the last 12 months.
Backing a draw here looks a sensible option given what is at stake and the fact that South Korea may be eyeing a different route through the later stages than Mexico – one which takes them to Los Angeles for the round of 32.
