Tip Reasoning

  • Middlesbrough have won their last four home Championship matches.
  • Boro have won four of their last six home games against Coventry in all competitions (Two draws).
  • Coventry are unbeaten in five on the road, but needed two stoppage-time equalisers to maintain that run.

Boro worth backing to end Sky Blues’ unbeaten away run

Middlesbrough are worthy of support on Saturday when they aim to forget last Monday’s loss at promotion rivals Blackburn and get three points against a Coventry side just below them in the Championship.

This meeting of the teams in eighth and ninth places could be a tense affair with the Sky Blues capable of frustrating good teams on the road. Mark Robins’ men held Sheffield United to a 0-0 draw before stoppage-time equalisers got them points at promotion-chasing Bournemouth and Huddersfield.

But both of those results relied on an element of good fortune and it may take more than that to deny a Boro side that suffered only their second Championship defeat of Wilder’s reign when falling to that 1-0 defeat at Ewood Park.

Reaction expected to Boro’s loss at Blackburn

Middlesbrough posted a higher xG figure than their opponents in that game – as they have done in all but one of the matches since Wilder arrived on Teesside in November. It would seem foolish to expect them not to dominate and create higher quality chances again on Saturday given what has gone before.

Boro’s manager was fuming about certain aspects of the performance on Monday, singling out the attitude of his players after the defeat, so we would expect some kind of reaction to that and possibly a couple of changes to the line-up too.

The hosts will win if they can replicate what they have done at home recently – where their four-game winning run includes victories over two clubs above Coventry in the table. We’re backing a 2-0 home win that would match the scoreline from four of the last ten Boro home league games.
