Montreal Impact vs Toronto FC Predictions

The 401 Derby is one of the most intense rivalries in Canadian and North American football, named after the 401 highway connecting Montreal and Toronto. This quickfire derby double will have fans all over Canada excited.

Montreal Impact took to the pitch on Sunday knowing that a win against Toronto FC would allow them to finish the regular season above their opponents.

They did manage to take the three points to claim their 6th win over their rivals, with a quickfire double from Didier Drogba cancelling out, and then exceeding, Jozy Altidore’s opener.

This let Montreal Impact leap up the table to an impressive 3rd place, with 6th position Toronto FC left trailing two points behind.

It was a thrilling end to a thrilling season in the MLS, where the Eastern Conference saw just a four point difference between 2nd and 6th.

The win at home to Toronto FC was Montreal Impact’s 3rd victory on the bounce, and they have won six of their last eight MLS games, with the other two being away defeats to Orlando City and New York Red Bulls.

This loss in the 401 Derby was Toronto FC’s 2nd loss in a row, with a 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew the weekend before ending their four match winning streak in the MLS.

All of these four wins came on home turf though, and away from home they look pretty poor. They haven’t won on the road since June, with six of their eight matches since then ending in defeat.

Montreal Impact, on the other hand, have won all of their last five home fixtures in the MLS, so it’s all looking rosy for them at the moment.

Likely MLS MVP winner Sebastian Giovinco is the main threat in the visitors side The Italian has scored 22 times this season, compared to Montreal Impact’s top scorer Dider Drogba, who has 11 to his name.

Despite Giovinco’s threat, I just can’t look beyond Toronto FC’s shocking away form. Six losses and two draws in their last eight away days makes odds of 11/10 for a Montreal Impact win look excellent value, in addition to the fact they already managed to beat them on Sunday.
