Netherlands vs Uzbekistan Predictions
- Netherlands dominated in a 1-0 loss to Algeria on Wednesday
- Uzbekistan lost 2-0 to Canada on Tuesday
- Donyell Malen has scored seven goals in his last seven games for Roma
Dutch denied by Algerian smash and grab
The Netherlands face Uzbekistan in New York on Monday in a World Cup warm-up match which amounts to little more than a behind-closed-doors practice game. The Dutch will want to rebuild some momentum after their 1-0 home loss to Algeria – a smash-and-grab raid by the Africans in a match they dominated.
But they will also be wary of injuries less than a week out from their opening group match against Japan. Ronald Koeman played what could be viewed as his strongest XI against the Fennecs with Donyell Malen flanked by Crysensio Summerville and Cody Gakpo up front.
They will probably all get significant minutes in this match too, but there will again be a raft of changes to disrupt the rhythm of the match. Fans able to watch on TV should not expect a goal fest either with Uzbekistan lacking punch up front.
White Wolves were toothless against Canada
The White Wolves finally qualified for the World Cup after years of near misses with a 0-0 draw away to United Arab Emirates last summer. They have since won seven, drawn five and lost only two of their 14 internationals, including a 2-0 victory over Egypt.
But Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Canada in Edmonton was probably a fair reflection of their chances of making an impact in the finals as they competed well but lacked a cutting edge again.
Back the Dutch to win to nil with Malen on the scoresheet in a potential 2-0 win.
