Cagey affair expected at Sixfields

Saturday’s clash between Northampton and Charlton at Sixfields Stadium promises to be a low-scoring affair. Four of Charlton’s last six League One games have had fewer than three goals, and under 2.5 goals is the recommendation for this clash.

Charlton are five places above Northampton in the table, but both teams have lost more games than they’ve won. The hosts are 19th with five wins and nine defeats, while Charlton, in 14th, have six wins and seven losses.

These are tough times for Northampton, with three of their last four League One matches ending in defeat. They have recorded only one victory in their last eight league games, although they have enjoyed success in three of their last four home games in the league.

Goals have been hard to come by for both teams recently. Northampton have been unable to find the net in four of their last six League One matches, while Charlton’s struggles in front of goal this season are reflected in their tally of 18 goals in 19 games – an average of 0.9 goals per game.

No team has played more League One games with under 2.5 goals than Charlton’s 13 this season, and four of their last six have had fewer than three goals. That suggests goals are likely to be in short supply.

Both teams are struggling for form, but Charlton to win 1-0 looks a decent correct-score option.
