Nottingham Forest 1-0 @ 7/1

Reason For Nottingham Forest vs Fulham Predictions

  • Nottingham Forest have led 1-0 in all four games since the restart, only dropping points to two stoppage-time equalisers.
  • Fulham have lost to nil against two playoff rivals since the restart
  • Forest have won 1-0 on five occasions at home this term
  • Mitrovic has scored 12 of Fulham’s 22 away goals this season

Playoff jostle

The sides in fifth and fourth go head to head at the City Ground on Tuesday night in a potential playoff clash. With only five games remaining this is shaping up as a semi-final. Both sides have little option but to fight it out for promotion in the playoffs, with the top two looking out of their reach. That’s a blow for Fulham, who gave Scott Parker the aim of promotion by any means after keeping most of last season’s Premier League squad.

This clash could go some way to determining Parker’s fate, especially as the four sides in the playoffs are jostling for position. While there’s not much in terms of home advantage to win, a victory here could lay down a marker ahead of an encounter in a few weeks’ time. We see Forest taking an edge from this one in our predictions.

Forest setback

Of course, this clash looked much bigger for Sabri Lamouchi’s men after 90 minutes on Saturday. Heading towards a 1-0 win at bitter rivals Derby, Forest were set to move within two points of the automatic promotion spots. However, a late Derby equaliser left them fifth by the end of the weekend. With a nine-point gap and just 15 left to play for, even the most optimistic Forest fan must be looking towards the playoffs.

Lamouchi’s men have worked hard to close the gap on the top two since the restart. The hosts have lead in each one of their four matches since returning to action, with two stoppage-time equalisers leaving them settling for two 1-1 draws on the road. However, back to back wins at the City Ground have set them up well for this clash against a Fulham side who aren’t quite as impressive.

Forest the complete unit

Fulham have bounced back to win consecutive matches, but both have been a slog. They edged out Birmingham late on at the weekend, while taking advantage of a struggling QPR side a week ago. Before that they fell short against quality sides, with a 2-0 loss against Brentford followed by a 3-0 hammering at Leeds. They remain without Aleksandar Mitrovic from his three-game ban, so the Cottagers still won’t be at their best here.

That’s a blow for Parker, who has pulled them towards the top of the league be relying on the talents of their big hitters. There’s no real blueprint for the visitors, which can’t be said for Forest. The hosts have an impressive defence and a great team spirit, with Lamouchi creating an impressive unit. That has led them to 10 victories at home this season, including wins over Derby, Brentford and Leeds here. With Fulham taking a point from their three trips to the top six, we think the value here lies with a home win.

Forest have seven home wins to nil to their name this season. The hosts have claimed five 1-0 victories at home this season, while Fulham have failed to score in four of their five away losses. We expect the hosts to edge out a Cottagers side who have scored 12 of their 22 away goals through Mitrovic this term.
