Nottingham Forest vs Wigan Predictions
- The Latics are 12 games without a victory.
- Wigan have lost 8 of 12 away trips this season.
- The visitors have a -12 goal difference on the road, having averaged less than a goal per game going forward.
- Forest have won their last 3 at home to Wigan.
Turnaround for Forest
Nottingham Forest moved to the verge of the playoffs with their Boxing Day success at Hull. The hosts returned from back-to-back defeats by winning at the KCOM, but can they add to that when they host Wigan this week? The home side are aiming to secure a spot in the top six this term, so they need to win clashes like this.
Wigan head to the City Ground rooted in the drop zone and on a lengthy winless run of 12 games. They are going to find it tough to take anything from this game, despite Forest losing 4-0 in their last home game. The hosts will be desperate to put things right and end 2019 on a high as they chase promotion in the New Year.
Wigan’s Away Troubles
While some would see Forest as vulnerable following some below-par results at home this term, the Latics aren’t one of those sides. Wigan are one of only two teams – along with Middlesbrough – yet to win away from home in the Championship this season (D4 L8), with the Latics’ last victory on the road coming against Leeds in April last season.
The visitors have some pretty poor results behind them at their own ground, having lost 12 of 24 matches overall. However, they have still taken 80% of their points at home, which shows how poor their results on the road have been. The Latics have the league’s worst away points haul, while the visitors have scored just nine times on the road, conceding 21.
Forest Chase Victory
The hosts should take a lot of confidence from their Boxing Day win, while a glance at Wigan’s away form should give them a boost too. The visitors should be bigger outsiders here with Forest back to their best. On top of that, the visitors have a terrible record at the City Ground, as Nottingham Forest have won their last three home league matches against Wigan.
The visitors come here having failed to score in 50% of their away trips, while they’ve conceded in almost all of their games on the road. We expect Forest to secure another win, especially with Wigan taking no points from their first three visits to the top eight so far this season. We think Forest are good value given the Latics’ awful away form. A home win is our pick here, while we’re backing a 1-0 home win, which has landed in 30% of Forest’s home games and three times for Wigan on the road.
